Quincy Punx - Nutso Smasho (1998)

The Quincy Punx final LP.  There isn't enough I can say about this one.  I believe the album dropped the same week I began 10th grade.  And it came with me on my headphones every time I went to school.  And you guessed it -- There could not have been a better target audience for such a potent, pissed off, punk record.  The usual humor ensues.... a bunch of songs about killing cops, drinking heavy, killing your mother, smoking cigarettes.... you know... PUNK STUFF!  What was cool about this album is it contains two covers, done VERY WELL.  Yes, Quincy Punx aced a DEVO song with "Uncontrollable Urge".  And turned me onto a band called Dayglo Abortions with a little ditty "I Killed Mommy".  Also an incredible use of intelligent soundclips (The Young Ones, Strange Brew, The Simpsons, B&B, Full Metal Jacket to name a few!) I love it!   When I first had the CD I remember it had a bonus CD-Rom feature where the guitarist or some shit would show you how to make a beer bong, instructing it was a good idea to keep one in your trunk.  Y'know what? He was right!  Thanks!  If someone could get that on youtube that would be great.

Vile Horrendous - Smash The State... 7" (1995)

One of two 7" releases by Eastern Pennsylvania's own VILE HORENDOUS.  Four pissy punk songs addressing pressing issues such as dead nazis', boycotting the music industry, and techno sucking.  Honest work from these Bethelhem area beer-drinking brats.  Complete with plenty of shots of minors with mohawks enjoying Schlitz and Meister Brau presumably released on their own label VILE LIFE.  Any more information, please share.

The Krays / The Truents - Oi! What Happened To Punk? (1996)

The mid nineties were a great time to get into punk.  NYC was the place to be.  I was probably 13-14 when this record came out but I bought it off one of the band members at Coney Island High and a forty oz of Midnight Dragon leaked all over it in my friends back pack. Needless to say 15 years later its still sees action on my record player because its a great record.  Two records actually.  Two tracks from each band and a successful joint effort in a Sham 69 cover.  This was, to the best of my knowledge, both bands first appearances on vinyl. Both bands are still active today, at some point the Truents became Suspect Device.  The Krays have since had 4 albums and have toured the world extensively. INTENSIVE SCARE RECORDS 1996.

The Varukers - Nothings Changed 7" (1994)

1994 saw the reformation of the highly influential British hardcore punk band Varukers.  Having formed in the early 80's putting out 2 great albums and a fleet of seven inch records, the band was highly compared to Discharge.  Unlike Discharge, the Varukers never turned into a wussy cock rock band.  And when they nineties came around, they picked up right where they left off, and put out some of the most raging politically charged hardcore punk of the decade.  Why here?  Well they only toured the states like a dozen times in the mid-late 90's, mostly with The Casualties, touching down on every small city between NY and California.  This EP was their first release after they reformed and is just a flawless example of hard hitting, blistering, punk.  Crank it up, and ENJOY it!

One Common Voice - Freedom Not Fascism EP (1997)

One Common Voice were alerted to me courtesy of the first Punx Unite compilation on Charged Records.  What I do know about them is they were a few dudes who played in bands in the 80's (most notably vocalist Howie had a stint in Half-Life) got together and put our a raging street punk record. The band was from Lafayette LA and judging by their sleeve notes they had problems with the local KKK chapter.  Disbanded in 1998.

DISSUCKS - A Room With A View Of A World Of Shit 7" (1997)

Dis Sucks came from Philly in the latter half of the 1990's and were a staple in the whole PHILLY SHREDS thing.  Too punk as fuck for their own good, they released to the best of my knowledge, a pair of singles (this one courtesy of SUBVERT&DENY) and contributed a few tracks to compilations.  I do not really know much more information about the band. I heard the singer Ray, passed away some time ago and perhaps one of the other guys kicked it too.  Either way, the material i've collected by this band is pissed and great!  Reminds me of a more pissed off GRIMPLE.

Dysfunctional Youth - 1995 Demo

Originally called Two Minute Hate, these dudes grew up across the river from Manhattan, presumably met in high school, dropped out, and formed a band.  This band played some of the most notorious shows in the nyc area alongside a wide range of bands from Casualties, to the Wretched Ones, to Blanks 77. Anyway, this is their second offering - 9 solid pogo punk anthems.  "Born To Lose" is a punk rock classic, makes you hurt to think about why this band never put out a record other than their contributions to the 'Pogo Attack' and 'World Punk 94' compilations. Shortly after this demo, Otto (vocs) left and was replaced by a dude named Manny.  A seven inch was recorded in 1998 and shelved as the band yet again dissolved.  A much more matured and refined version of the band resurfaced in the early 2000's taking the band in a more Oi! direction. They occasionally still gig.

Blanks 77 / Showcase Showdown - Drunk At The Karaoke Bar (1997)

When all the kids first heard rumor of a split 7" between these two, we had such high hopes for quite possibly the greatest piece of wax of the decade.  Sadly upon it's release it caused a bunch half of those kids to cut off their mohawks and go to school.  And now 15 years later, of course, on a blog on the internet, some drunk, unemployed, live-at-home slob will go ahead and refer to is as "the greatest piece of wax of the decade".  See a series of band member romances blossom before your eyes, HEAR 'Everyone Sings With Dale from England : Born in the USA'.  Tario Records, Allston Mass.  Also one should note the inner artwork is of the band members seated around the last supper, you guessed it.... Mike Blanx as the savior.  Happy 4-20 ya'll.

The Denied - S/T 7" (1993)

I know very little about this band other than it was Steve Distraughts' project between Jesus Chrust, and Distraught.  This is a ripping record in its own right! NYC Cider Punks from the glory days of pre-giulianni punk in the once filthiest city in the world.  Squat or Rot! The inside features a drawing of a punk with huge hair sipping cider from a huge straw out of a huge barrel and his shirt reads "Jock Rocks Dead and Your Next!".... I'm pretty sure thats why I bought this record, so here it is!

Lint - S/T 7" (1997)

Here's one from the Bayshore region of New Jersey.  The Bayshore is a shit-hole that sits on the Raritan Bay, mostly noted for its toxic waters and good fishing.  The ideal suburban backdrop for a punk explosion in the mid 90's... A bunch of rejects from Raritan High School got together and made this fine piece of wax for us on SCANDAL RECORDS.  Lint gave us this 7" as well as a demo tape, which i'm sure are all gone.  Also one should note the amazing cover art of punk rockers smashing a Hazlet police car with a bat, and grabbing their crotches.... PUNK!  If my memory serves me right, the band lasted about two years and then became known as The Grillers and tried a more radio rock approach. Enjoy this one, the song Outnumbered is classic.

Showcase Showdown - Appetite Of Kings (1996)

This is the first studio album by Bostons' own Showcase Showdown.  How certain members of the human race have came so far in the past 15 years, without knowing of this bands existence is beyond me.  Their very name is synonymous with the words pogo-punk.  Catchy songs, hilarious lyrics, a great stage show.  I was fortunate enough to see these guys, and gal a few times and they never disappointed. They put out probably a dozen 7"s, a bunch of splits, and a final album entitled "Permenant Stains" and called it quits in 2000.  I once heard a rumor the singer freaked out and claimed punk rock ruined his life. Thats OK It ruined mine too, but i'm glad!  Most of the band carried over to form a band called SPITZZ which are still active today.
