The Bristles - Last Years Youth (1995)

The first record i'm posting from the almighty BEER CITY label.  Expect to see a lot from Beer City, as they were a formidable force in the 90s American punk movement.  Hailing from the mountains of Sussex NJ, an area so rural and dismal these guys must have been sniffing glue before they hit puberty and heres the proof! In addition to this album, this lineup of the band also issued two singles and a contribution to the  POGO ATTACK compilation.  This record is as close to flawless a good ol' pogo punk record could come.  Classic loser street punk at its finest.  Every song is packed with melody and gang choruses.. How can you go wrong with song titles such as 'I hate Society' and 'I'm A Loser'.  This is rich and as good as it gets.  After the release of this album the band carried on with different members for some time releasing two more albums, and a score of singles (most notably a split with the US Bombs).  They reformed in the mid 2000's and yours truly got a chance to play drums on an unreleased album that was slated for release on Beer City. If your lucky, I may post the rough mixes of it!  So enjoy, and play this one REAL LOUD!

(Interesting story - The coolest thing about getting to play in this band was watching Aaron the singer rip through an entire crate of whip-its at band practice.  It was 2008 at the time and he was about 36... Awesome!)

The Despised NJ - 1999 (1998)

Back in the mid-late 90's punk exploded in New Jersey. This here was the definitive mark of creation by one of the most prominent local bands of the era, on BLACK PUMPKIN RECS.  The Despised used to cart around the state playing VFW halls, all ages clubs, shitty bars for crowds of 5 to a few hundred.  They had a unique sense of humor on and off the stage, just listen to the lyrics in ALCOHOLIC. They had a pretty cool 7" that came out a few years prior to this gem.  I'd post it, but all the songs are included here.  I got to play in a band a number of years later with the drummer Augie, hes a real character.  Snotty, surburban, punk rock greatness from Ocean County NJ. Enjoy!

Public Toys - Punk! (1996)

Here is the second album by the almighty Public Toys.  This flawless masterpiece comes to us courtesy of TEENAGE REBEL RECORDS.  Germany had many great bands in the 90's... these guys were right on top hailing from Dusseldorf.  Punk! was the second and final album to feature the bands original singer Fozzi. Their following album "Rock And Roll Parasite" Featured a young Pascal Briggs on vocals and took a slightly more rock and roll approach, but still mint.  Enjoy!

Braindance - Braniac (1995)

The second LP from Englands' BRAINDANCE.  This is a great follow up to "At Full Volume" that was released a year earlier. This record was released on HELEN OF OI!  Not a lot of information is found on the band, so i'll go on what I know.  I was alerted to them when they toured the states a number of years back with OXYMORON of which they also did a split 7" with.  They have 3 full lengths that I know of and a few singles.  Melodic street punk at its finest!

Blanks 77 - Unite And Pogo 7" (1992)

The very first Blanks record, I think put out after a few demo tapes.  This appears courtesy of the long defunct CT label VANDAL CHILDREN RECORDS.  Included is the standard photo collage of NJ/NYC punks and skin heads. It seemed like a popular thing for bands to do in the 90's.  Why? I dont't know.  I think we did one too.  I guess cause its was just punk. This record is dedicated to Jack Wussie. I have a Wussies 7" somewhere, maybe i'll dig it out.

Quincy Punx - Stuck On Stupid 10" (1996)

This was my introduction to the Quincy Punx on RECESS RECORDS. Boy do I remember getting yelled at every time I turned this one up. If you take the time and listen to the lyrics in Malicious Mischief, you'll understand where these guys stood on many pressing issues. I feel this record really captivates the bands 'essence'. Songs about drinking, killing, partying, toilet slaves, GG Allins freeze dried body, etc. All topped off with a POISON IDEA cover! Not bad at all!

Banner Of Hope - Waiting At The Barricades 7" (1994)

This is a special treat from lovely Linden, NJ. The first BANNER OF HOPE single on OBNOXIOUS RECORDS. Probably their own label. These tracks feature the band with their first of three singers, Neal. Neal was later replaced with a series of girls and put out a further 7" (Carry On Chaos 1997) and CD (Behind A... 1998). Always a pleasure to see live. Toured with FUNERAL DRESS in 1998 and faded out by 2000. The drummer, Matt, was the nicest guy. I remember my friend from town got to play guitar in the band later on and we would go to Matts house to hang out. He'd play records and let us drink beer. He was killed in a motorcycle accident a few years later but is fondly remembered by all that knew him. As a BONUS! I also included the two tracks that appeared on the POGO ATTACK! Compilation.

The Glory Stompers - S/T 7" (1993)

The first GLORY STOMPERS 7"...... I mean double 7". Disturbance Records. Canadian pogo punk in its rawest form. Plenty of fuzzed out guitars, pounding drums and snotty male/female vocals. All I know about this band is they seemed to shuffle members a lot. Their first few records, most notably the ABANDONED YOUTH LP were indeed totally punk-as-fuck. Later they apparently got jobs, shaved their heads, and became a three piece. What followed was a split with THE TEMPLARS, and a second LP, both on the German label KNOCKOUT. I will post more from these guys some day...
